Swing into Fall!

Summer may not have fully arrived, but it’s time to start thinking about fall! As depressing as that may seem, fall also means some great food, beer and cocktail events—which is never a bad thing! Fountainhead, Bread & Wine, Bar on Buena and Katherine Anne Confections are planning some awesome events to help you get into the new season.

Celebrate what’s left of summer & the start of fall with the fun events listed below!

Sumerian Beer Dinner with Great Lakes Brewing at Fountainhead

Fountainhead, a well-known craft beer and whisk(e)y bar in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood, is excited to host a Sumerian Beer Dinner with Great Lakes Brewing Company (GLBC). This historic beer dinner is 4,000 years in the making. For the past year, GLBC brewers and archaeologists at the University of Chicago’s Oriental Institute have attempted to create an authentic version of an ancient Sumerian ale without the aid of modern brewing equipment.

GLBC & Chef Cleetus Friedman, executive chef at Fountainhead, will come together to present this Sumerian beer at an educational and interactive event. Ticket-holders will gain admission to a VIP reception on Fountainhead’s rooftop, where GLBC co-owner Patrick Conway and Oriental Institute archaeologist Tate Paulette will give a lecture on their Sumerian beer project. Following the lecture, guests will enjoy a family-style, Sumerian-inspired feast prepared by Chef Cleetus. A Q&A session will follow the dinner and guests will have the opportunity to view the ceramic vessels and tools utilized in the brewing process.

$61.23 for general admission, Oriental Institute members: $51.23. Click here for tickets.

Ticket price includes:

  • Admission to Fountainhead’s rooftop reception
  • Samples of Great Lakes Brewing Company’s family of beers
  • Samples of Great Lakes Brewing Company’s Sumerian beer
  • A Sumerian-inspired feast, served family-style
  • An informative presentation on the Sumerian beer project, given by Patrick Conway and Tate Paulette, followed by a Q&A session
