Fountainhead Hosts Elite Master Mezcalier Classes: Level 2

Fountainhead, a well-known craft beer and whisk(e)y bar in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood with seasonal food, is excited to host the elite Master Mezcalier classes around the Indie Spirits Expo!

The Master Mezcalier program consists of four ascending levels of courses, which all need to be completed in order to attain the final title of Master Mezcalier. Fountainhead will be offering level 1 & level 2 over two scheduled days. The certification program is targeted toward restaurant workers & owners, liquor store vendors, chefs, bartenders, mixologists, aficionados, press or anyone interested in furthering their professional education about the agave spirit Mezcal. This certification process includes tests & certificates issued by the Mexican authorities.

Class level #1 Basic covers in-depth information about Mezcal production, certification, law,  agaves and denomination of origin. A very complete coverage of what Mezcal really is and how it is defined. Taught by Douglas French, a master distiller of Scorpion Mezcal SA de CV in Oaxaca, Mexico and also a certified Mezcal Ambassador. He has also served on the board of Comercom (the Mezcal governing agency overseeing certification).

Class level #2 Mixology will cover Mezcal as an alcoholic ingredient in beverages and cocktails and will take place in a lab format requiring the participant to create individual cocktails and recipes. Taught by Jaime Salas, Milagro Tequila Ambassador and a Master Mezcalier graduate.

But to truly receive the title of Master Mezcalier, students will have  to travel to Oaxaca, Mexico. for the final session.
